There are many reasons while computer applications (often called “apps”) are needed. We all have problems that need to be solved, grips and complaints that need to be aired, and embarrassing situations that need to be resolved. Below are some rhymes and songs about embarrassing situations, followed by some hints for writing the lyrics, performing, recording, and submitting songs about embarrassing situations for publication on this web site.

Rhymes and songs about embarrassing situations

Life is filled with embarrassing situations

When you realize you put your T-shirt on inside out, you feel self-conscious and wish you could fade out-of-sigh into the background. When you call someone by the wrong name, you wish you could melt into a puddle and flow down a drain into the ocean to get away from the awkward situation. When you stand up to accept an award only to realize the announcer called someone else’s name, you wish you were invisible and feel everyone is staring at you. Everyone has embarrassing, uncomfortable situations.  Occasionally people say the wrong thing at the wrong time, such as: “May I offer you a stool softener—oops, I mean stool cushion?” In retrospect these moments may be hilariously funny, but in the moment, time seems to slow down as you turn red-faced with embarrassment.

It seems there are apps on your mobile device to deal with most of the plagues facing modern life, from workplace situations to career, financial, and personal relationship  issues.  There oughta be an app to help people with embarrassing situations.

A collection of embarrassing situations

An initial collection of rhymes

I type and read the whole day long.
I type a love note that goes wrong.
Intended for my lover friend,
But it was sent to my boss instead.

I want to buy some winter clothes.
I chose a coat and proudly pose.
A stranger says “it looks so fine,”
“I think that it is really mine.

I see my friend, but not his face.
I give to him a big embrace.
But as he slowly turns around,
He is a stranger I had found.

It seems like lots of smoke and fire.
It sounds like crooks with squealing tires.
I call police to come save me.
Arrest the crooks on my TV.

In morning I climb out of bed,
to make sure that the kids get fed.
I go about my morning chores.
I pour coffee onto the floor.

Songs written by ChatGPT

I struck a pose and flexed my bicep,
To show my muscles, oh so crisp,
But as I turned to see the crowd,
My pants had split, they ripped out loud.

So I stood tall, with dignity and might,
And proved to all that I’m alright.
For true strength lies within the heart,
Ripped pants will not tear me apart
.

I tried to show off my new hair,
With a flip and a stylish flair.
But as I shook my head with pride,
My wig fell off and I should hide.

I looked around with fear and shame,
Hoping no one saw my hairless frame.
But there they stood, a sea of smiles,
Pointing and laughing all the while.

#

I tried to quote a movie line,
To impress a friend, to make me shine.
But as I spoke with much finesse,
I got it wrong, and made a mess.

I stumbled, fumbled, felt so blue,
Wished I’d kept my mouth shut too,
But as I sheepishly hung my head,
I laughed it off without dread.

#

I tried to be a helping hand,
And lift a box, oh so grand.
But as I strained with all my might,
It slipped, and it fell out of sight.

I stumbled, I fumbled, I lost my hold,
And the box fell with a crash, so bold.
But still I laughed, with all all in stride,
For I know I tried, I really tried.

#

I took a selfie with lots of flair,
To show my smile and cool hair.
But as I posed with smiley face,
I noticed my hair was out of place
.

I thought of redoing the shot,
To show the world, my hair so hot.
But then I stopped and realized,
Perfection’s not what in life is prized
.

#

I tried to make a toast with flair;
And raise my glass, oh so rare.
But as I started my salute
I spilled my drink onto my suit.

So I smiled, and raised my glass once more,
And made my toast, as I did before.
For life is not about being neat,
But about the memories, that we meet.

#

I gathered friends, around the flame,
To tell a tale, of fear and shame.
A story so mysterious and grim,
To make them jump, with a chill within.

But as I spoke, with much suspense,
I stumbled, tripped, and lost my sense.
The words no longer made a flow,
And my story lost its ghostly glow.

I watched as eyes, once wide with fright,
Now looked at me, with not a sight.
Of fear or terror, in their gaze,
Just confusion, and a gentle daze.

So I paused, and took a breath,
And realized, my story’s death.
So I ended with a gentle smile,
And laughed it off, for a while.

#

I held the string, with gentle hand,
And let the kite, take flight so grand.
With ease it lifted, off the ground,
And danced above, without a sound.

But as it rose, into the air,
It got entangled, beyond repair.
The string, a mess, with knots so tight,
Preventing flight, with all its might.

I tugged and pulled, with all my might,
Hoping to fix and set it right.
But the more I tried, the more it stalled,
A frustrating sight, beyond recall.

So I stood there, and gazed aloft,
Watching my kite, a tangled loss.
And though it didn’t reach the sky,
The frustration will never die.

#

I settled in, behind the wheel,
With eagerness, my heart did feel.
The open road, lay out ahead,
To endless possibilities led.

I shifted gears, and hit the gas,
Lurching forward, driving fast.
But as I drove, with reckless pride,
My steering wheel, would not abide.

I swerved and slid, control was gone,
I crashed and all my joy was done..
I sat there shocked, and filled with fear,
I should have driven, with more care.

#

In the shower, I was sang with glee,
Feeling alive, full of energy.
But then my roommate cut through the sound,
Please do not sing so loud.

#

I waved to someone I thought I knew,
They just looked at me, confusion grew.
My mistake and I took flight,
Embarrassment and shame now my plight.

How to write your song

Think of an embarrassing situation

Have you ever made a mistake and did not know what to do? Have you ever found yourself in an awkward situation and wondered how to move forward? For example:

My interview draws to a sharp close.
I say goodbye and rise to go.
I walk across the boardroom floor,
To exit through the bathroom door.

I feel uncomfortable in these kinds of situations. Our mobile devices have apps for almost anything, but none of them are quite applicable to this situation. My heart cries out…

Oh, there oughta be an app for that,
To figure out what to do.
There oughta be an app. There oughta be an app.
There's gotta be an app for that!

If this were a Broadway musical, the stage would burst into song and dance, singing a song based on the above lyrics: Here is a recording of the song. Sing along if you like.

Sing along

There are many, many other situations where there oughta be an app for that.

I confess this is not likely to happen. I don’t own a red corvette but once I tried to get into the wrong car with the owner watching. I remember thinking, there oughta be an app for that!

Here are more examples of embarrassing situations. You:

Write the lyrics

Writing new lyrics for the song, There Oughta Be An App for That, is easy.

First, choose one the the embarrassing situations you just wrote down.

Second, write four phrases that describe the situation. It is desirable (but not necessary) to make the last words of the first two phrases rhyme with each other. Then make the last words of the last two phrases rhyme with each other. If the embarrassing situation is accidently sending a love letter to your boss, you might write:

I sit at my computer in the office all day long
I type “I love you” to a friend, when something goes all wrong
My boss was the recipient, it was not my friend
But I had pressed the button clearly labeled SEND

This certainly describes the situation well, but some of the phrases have too many words. Try singing the phrases and adjusting the words so the fit comfortable with the song’s melody. The song may look something like this:

I type and read the whole day long.
I type a love note that goes wrong.
Intended for my lover friend,
But was sent to my boss instead.

Practice singing

Sing the song several times with this backing track:

Close your eyes. Have you memorized the lyrics? It is not necessary to memorize the lyrics, but helps as you add inflections and emotions as you sing. Sing in front of a mirror, so you can see your hand movements and facial expressions.

If you play a guitar, ukulele, or keyboard, try playing your instrument as you sing. Here are the chords and melody to the song:
